Part of Carl's Christmas Puzzle Hunt: 2014
I seem to have gotten two of these hint puzzles rather tangled. Let's see if you can manage to set things straight. There's another puzzle that's tangled together with this one like this: The solution to that other puzzle gives you the key to unlock the message that's hidden in this puzzle. But then the solution to this puzzle is a hint that gives you the key to unlock the hint that's hidden in the solution to the other puzzle. Does that sound too confusing? Don't worry---you'll see that it all makes sense once you figure it out.

[One of my sons commented that this was his favorite part of the puzzle hunt this year. It worked out just as I had hoped: The instructions made the situation seem impossible, ("How can we solve two puzzles simultaneously if we have to have the other one solved to get a hint to solve this one first?"). But of course, there is a way to make that work, and as the instructions promise, it does all make sense once you figure it out. So that was satisfying for all of us.]
